Häufig gestellte Fragen zur Rechnungsstellung in Italy
What must an Italian invoice (fattura) contain?
Article 21 of DPR 633/1972 sets the content: date and sequential number, the supplier's and the customer's details including the Partita IVA (or the customer's Codice Fiscale for a private person), a description of the goods or services, the taxable amount, the VAT rate and the VAT amount. Under the flat-rate scheme (regime forfettario) no VAT is charged and the invoice cites the scheme instead.
What is the regime forfettario threshold?
The flat-rate scheme is open to businesses and professionals with revenue up to 85,000 EUR a year. Above 100,000 EUR it stops applying immediately.
Is e-invoicing mandatory in Italy?
Yes. Domestic B2B and B2C invoices go through the SdI (Sistema di Interscambio) as FatturaPA XML since 1 January 2019, and since January 2024 that includes businesses on the flat-rate scheme. A PDF from euinvoice is a readable copy for your client; the legal invoice is the one sent through SdI.
When is the 2 EUR stamp duty (marca da bollo) due?
On an invoice without VAT, such as a regime forfettario invoice, when the amount is above 77.47 EUR. On an electronic invoice it is declared with the virtual stamp duty field and paid to the Agenzia delle Entrate; euinvoice prints the matching note on the PDF copy.
